Will Putin attend COP 29?
The Netherlands [ENA] The world’s attention is currently focused on Azerbaijan, or more precisely, on Baku. Next month, from November 11 to 22, Baku will host the internationally significant COP 29 event. I had previously written about this in one of my articles (source: https://www.european-news-agency.de/politik/cop_29__how_sincere_are_we-89920/ ). Of course, some questions may also arise regarding the event.
A question troubling some of the participating countries is: Will Russian President Putin come to Baku to attend the event? The country that least wants this to happen is, of course, Ukraine. They have called on their allies to boycott COP 29 if Putin attends. Ukraine’s ambassador to the European Union, Vsevolod Chentsov, stated in an interview with Politico that Kyiv is pressuring its allies on this matter. “We need to increase this pressure. Partner countries must clearly communicate to Azerbaijan that if Putin will be there, they will not attend," said Ambassador Chentsov.
However, a source in the Azerbaijani government told BBC’s Azerbaijan bureau that Vladimir Putin will not come to Baku to attend COP 29. “Russia will be represented at the event by the Prime Minister," the source noted (source: https://www.bbc.com/azeri/articles/c20m31r6gjjo.). According to reports from the Azerbaijani media, the official authorities in Baku are doing everything possible to ensure that the event is conducted at a high level and in complete security. They believe that Azerbaijan will successfully host the event at the highest standards. Our readers can find more detailed information about COP 29 on this website: https://cop29.az/en/home
